!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

This seems like a lot of car for the money, with the only real problems being that the car is front-wheel drive and has Chevy build quality. So what's the deal with the LS4 powered Impala? Is it worth checking out for a grocery getter, or is it just a poor handling, overweight chassis with a V8 shoved in there because 'Merica? Thanks.

They eat transmissions. That alone doesn't explain why it's just 5k though; Salvage title?

Transmissions are laughably bad in those. No one that I know of (was on a W-Body forum for many years) made it past 100k without at least one transmission dying.

Just send the transmission to triple edge and have them strengthen the tranny. Thatll last forever and turn off the DoD and its a solid driver

The guy was asking $8k for a while, then took the ad down, only to re-post it today/yesterday with the reduced asking price. I'm guessing something (likely the transmission given three Oppos mentioning it) is a ticking time bomb.

The transmission, Displacement-on-Demand, and interior are the most prominent negatives of the car.

1. The transmission isn't strong enough to handle the factory torque for the life of the vehicle. It's also really lazy from the factory and it's only a 4-speed with really tall gearing I believe.

2. DoD takes away from the experience and in my opinion defeats the point of going with the smoother 8-cylinder. More modern implementations are much better. This is one thing I am thankful to have avoided by opting for the manual transmission on my Accord V6.

3. The interior really is just laughable. This generation of Impala makes a Camry seem exciting.

All that being said, the name of the game is priorities. If big V8 power in a sensible FWD 4-door package are good for you, you don't really have any other options besides earlier Caddy's and Pontiac's Grand Prix and Bonneville GXP models.

Personally, I think there are better options in the market for meeting the same requirements as an Impala SS.

If you want to torque steer yourself right off the road, go for it.
